Supporting Our Programs

Partners In Adventure camp helps enable VT teens with disabilities to experience the joys of friendship and recreation.  Located in Chittenden County, Partners In Adventure (PIA) is the only camp in Vermont offering full inclusion and accessibility for teens with and without disabilities.  Over the past five years, 40% of our campers have received financial assistance. We need your financial support to keep this wonderful program active and available to those that wish to be a part of it. Your gift will go directly to touch a child’s life in a direct, tangible way.

Woman's Day magazine had this to say about PIA:
Camp Diversity—Instead of sending your kids off for another year of soccer, computer or Boy Scout camp, consider sending them to a retreat that teaches cooperation and compassion. At Partners In Adventure, a unique camp for kids both with and without disabilities, they'll do more than make crafts and sing campfire songs. The camp is designed to honor diversity by encouraging people ages 12 to 22 to build partnerships in which each person has the chance to safely explore the camp, lend a helping hand and learn more about the ways others live.

Bruce O’Neill, recently retired Director of South Burlington Recreation Department commented: “We have been involved for over thirty years in working with leisure time programs for people, both youth and adults, with disabilities of various kinds. This program is unique in my experience as it brings together people with and without disabilities to provide a wholesome summer experience.

Especially in these times, it’s important for local communities to find ways to value and include individuals of all abilities and differences. PIA camp is one such way. Remember, for many of our teens, Partners In Adventure is the only chance for summertime fun.  Please consider a donation at this time.

Comment from a case manager from Howard Community Services:
“….. did better than we could have imagined. Because of his experiences in the Partners In Adventure setting, he will be returning to school for the first time in 2 years.”

From a special education teacher in September:
“He surprised us completely by how much he had retained over the summer. We expected to take the first week or 2 to get back up to speed, but he maintained his IEP goals perfectly after receiving his summer services at Partners In Adventure camp.

From the parent of a severely disabled teen:
“He feels like one of the gang for the first time in his life! I can’t believe that he is fencing, swimming and horseback riding! Everyday he comes home smiling and wanting to hug me. I can’t thank you enough. Partners In Adventure is the best thing that ever happened to him.”
